CBSE Class XII Results Declared

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the 2013 Class XII examination results on 27th May. The results were declared at 8:30 am, and are available online on results.nic.in, cbseresults.nic.in and www.cbse.nic.in. Continuing the trend from previous years, girls have once again outshined boys. Their pass percentage is 10.2 per cent higher than their male peers. In all, 87.98 per cent of girls and 77.78 per cent of boys passed the CBSE exam.  The total pass percentage stood at 82.10 per cent, an increase of about two per cent over the last year. In all, 9,44,721 students registered for the Class XII examination this year, which was also an increase of 15.81 per cent over 2012. The southern region once again recorded the highest pass percentage; the pass percentage in Tamil Nadu went up from 90.59 in 2012 to 91.83 this year. Chennai also had the most number of students who scored above 95 per cent. Despite impressive figures, none of the national-level toppers are from the state this year. Delhi boy and commerce student Paras Sharma along with Sopan Khosla, a science student from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, emerged the national topper with an overall score of 99 per cent. The topper in the humanities stream is Pratyush Kumar Singh from Arunachal Pradesh, who scored 98 per cent. Maharashtra, part of the Chennai region, recorded its best performance in the last six years with an overall success rate of 93.9%. Across the country, candidates who scored 90% and above increased by almost 37%. Last year, 32,662 students had scored 90% and above in their class XII exams, this year the number was at 44,676. The results this year in particular assumes significance for students who aspire to make it to the IITs as weightage is given for the Class XII performance. Accordingly, the cut off score for the top 20 percentile will be 391 for general category students this year. For OBC, it will be 389, SC 350 and ST 338. Rank holders in the JEE advance under the new format must be among the top 20 performers for admission to the IITs.
